A cosmetic injectable consultation is required for first-time clients. As a new client, you'll have a 15-minute cosmetic consultation to discuss your areas of concern and the best products to use. A personalised treatment plan will be provided to help you achieve the best outcomes — the cost can be credited towards your recommended treatment or products (T&Cs apply).
About this treatment
How it works
PRP therapy works by injecting the patient's own concentrated platelet-rich plasma into the hair follicles, which stimulates and reactivates dormant or weakened hair follicles to produce thicker and healthier hair. The process begins with a blood draw from the patient's arm; this is then placed in a centrifuge machine which separates the red blood cells from the plasma. The PRP is then injected into the scalp using a very fine needle, allowing the platelets to be delivered directly and efficiently to where they are needed. During this process, hair follicles are nourished and stimulated in the scalp, resulting in an increase in blood flow to the area. PRP hair treatment typically requires a series of 2-3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart, and results may vary from patient to patient.
Treatment benefits
What it can help with
Individual results vary — we'll set realistic expectations at your consultation.
- PRP is a very useful treatment to increase the thickness of the hair shaft, especially recommended after a hair transplant, since it promotes hair growth by shortening the time it takes to grow and improving the quality of the growth. But it's also very useful when the sole objective is to take care of hair health, without having undergone a transplant.
- It helps promote hair recovery in the postpartum period, a stage in which it is common to suffer from telogen effluvium due to hormonal changes.
- It has no side effects and does not cause allergies. This is because the platelets come from the patient themselves, eliminating the possibility of rejection.
- PRP is a safe procedure that can be applied to people of any age.
- It is effective at regenerating damaged tissues, promoting the creation of new cells. In addition, it stimulates the creation of other compounds such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.
- PRP is so beneficial that it is not only used to improve hair health, but also to improve skin quality.
- It is a minimal, painless procedure that can be performed without the need for local anaesthesia.
Before & after
Caring for your skin
Before your treatment
- Please discontinue blood thinning agents such as vitamin A, Ginkgo, Garlic, Flax, Cod Liver Oil, Omega 3 Fatty Acids, and multivitamins, a minimum of 7 days (preferably 14 days) prior to treatment.
- If you are taking any blood thinners, please notify Eliixa right away as they may represent a contraindication to this treatment. These medications include Plavix, Coumadin, and Heparin.
- Avoid aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Voltaren and other anti-inflammatory medications. These medications inhibit the mechanism by which PRP works. We want inflammation to occur.
- You may take Tylenol as needed prior to the treatment.
- If you are taking broad beta-blockers such as Inderal (Propranolol), please notify your nurse as this medication may need to be changed to a selective beta-blocker in advance of the treatment. Prescription medication (including heart and blood pressure medication) should be taken as prescribed right up to, and including, the day of and the day after your treatment.
- Avoid excessive sun or heat exposure 5-7 days prior to treatment.
- Minimise or avoid alcohol 3 days prior to treatment.
- For hair treatment, colouring your hair is permitted up to 7 days before the treatment.
- To ensure that you are adequately hydrated prior to your treatment please remember to drink 8-10 glasses of water the day before your treatment session.
- PRP Hair Restoration — The Morning of Your Treatment: shower the morning of your treatment and wash your hair very thoroughly using your regular shampoo. Do not apply sprays, gels, or any other styling products to your hair.
- If you wear a hair system, please remove it prior to shampooing and do not wear it before your PRP treatments.
- Please eat a normal breakfast or lunch the day of your PRP session.
